Our Friends Have a Pretty House.
it has been years and years since i last posted the home of a real life friend. it’s been too long, don’t you think? today seemed like the perfect day to break the streak…a no-brainer considering my friend meaghan (and ben too) have one of the most beautiful houses i have ever come across. architect barbara bestor and designer frances merrill of reath design combined talented forces to build a home that has inspired me in so many ways. of course, it doesn’t hurt that one of my all time favorite photographers laure joliet worked her magic in these photographs as well.
i remember a few years back meaghan had mentioned that she had finally found the architect to build their end game family home. being the peruser that i am, i went deep into the work of barbara bestor and knew that something fantastic was about to happen…and it did.
i have had the pleasure of visiting often, but each time i go i find something i haven’t stumbled into before. i have always been drawn to spaces that appear to be curated rather than “designed” in the traditional sense. i find this type of thoughtfulness transforms a house into a space with soul…home. frances has perfected the art of inserting that extra thoughtfulness worth a second or third (or 50th) look.
honestly, when meaghan had mentioned that she was going to have reath come into her house, i had wondered why? our friends have impeccable taste and i had thought no one could make their space prettier than they could. i had worried that surely something would be lost or sterilized…this is not the case. frances has captured our dear friends in the most beautiful way and has created a warmth that homes should strive for.
